About The Project

After nearly 60 years of harsh Thunder Bay winters, our Cathedral roof needs to be repaired.

This drone footage provides a bird’s eye view of the current state of the Cathedral roof. As you can see, the rubber membrane protecting the roof is peeling away, leaving the underlying metal roof exposed to the elements. If left unchecked, the Cathedral will experience further leakage and structural damage.

A three-phase plan, running from now to the end of 2025, has been put in place to repair the Cathedral roof. The total cost of repair is $2.6 million. Please help if you can.

  • DSS survey for evidence of asbestos

Anticipated Cost: $83,000

Phase I:
Cathedral Main Roof

  • Install scaffolding around Church

  • Remove existing NMPD roof and make any repairs necessary

  • Replace scupper drains with external downspouts

  • Install rigid foam installation

  • Install new metal roof with expected duration of 50 years

Start: May 1, 2023

Contractor: RML Contracting Ltd.

Anticipated Cost: $2,200,000

Phase II:
Side Chapel Flat Roof

  • Remove existing NMPD and make any necessary repairs

  • Intall sloped rigid foam insulation

  • Install waterproof vinyl roofing

Start: Spring 2024

Contractor: TBD

Anticipated Cost: $425,000

Phase III:
Office/Rectory Flat Roof

  • Install scaffolding around the Rectory

  • Remove existing NMPD roof and make any repairs necessary

  • Reroute drains from storm sewer to external downspouts

  • Install sloped rigid insulation

  • Install vinyl roofing

Start: Fall 2024
